Auguste Clape – Saint-Péray 2017 is a rare white wine from the southernmost appellation of the Northern Rhône, vinified by legendary Cornas producer Clape. The wine is made from Marsanne and Roussanne grapes from old vines growing on calcareous soils over granite. It is traditionally aged in old oak barrels and fermented spontaneously, without fining or filtration.
The 2017 vintage displays aromas of ripe yellow fruits, honey, white flowers, herbs, and salty minerality on the nose. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and profound, with balanced freshness, fine phenolics, and a long, complex finish. Not a pleasing Rhône white, but a distinctive wine with potential.
Ideal for lovers of sophisticated, terroir-influenced white wines with texture, depth, and ageing potential. Drink now with air, ideal until at least 2028+.
