Like its predecessor , Domaine Gonon – Saint-Joseph 2019 comes from organically farmed granite vineyards in Mauves. Here, too, the Gonon family relies on traditional, authentic vinification – with spontaneous fermentation, large oak barrels, and plenty of time in the cellar.
The 2019 vintage is somewhat cooler and more structured than 2018, with aromas of dark forest berries, fresh herbal spice, black pepper, and wet stone. On the palate, the wine appears more focused and somewhat tighter, with high internal tension, fine-grained tannins, and a long, mineral finish.
Both vintages are exemplary of Gonon's signature – with 2018 somewhat more open and mature, 2019 cooler, more precise and more storable.
